Last Sunday (25th August), the Pembrokeshire Harriers Junior Team and merry band of supporters and officials travelled to Swansea for the Welsh Junior League Cup Final. To reach the Final, the team had to finish in the top three of their league which they did easily. The Cup Final provided opposition from the best Junior Teams in Wales...Swansea, Carmarthen, Cardiff, Cardiff Archers, Newport, Rhymney and Brecon.

The team wasn't expected to win the competition as some of the other teams easily provide much bigger numbers due to the size of their club. The object was for our athletes to experience competing against the best in Wales which they all did with enthusiasm and determination. The very sunny day brought out many sunny smiles from the Pembs athletes. All wore the yellow and blue vests with pride and were not overawed by the competition.

Due to holidays etc, Jo and Kelly had picked the best team available and there were many fine performances with many pb's. One stand out result was Gracie Griffiths breaking the Welsh U15 Girl 1K Walk Record.

Even though we might not have figured in the top places for competition, the Pembrokeshire contingent of athletes, supporters and officials would have won first prize for the "most together" team of the day. Family, friends and team occupied the left side of the Swansea stand which was a whirl of yellow and blue. Athletes not competing all played together and cheered their mates on the track. Family and friends grouped together offering support, food, drinks, suncream and words of wisdom (namely, stop jumping on the seats or please don't fall off the stand).

Mention must be made of the Harriers' officials out on the track and field. Many thanks to Jade Gray, Gareth Harries, Huw, Bethan and Wil Lloyd, Karen Llewellin, Nigel Pawlett, Gethin Vobe and Lee Griffiths.

Well that rounds off another very good season for the Pembrokeshire Harriers Junior Team. Many, many great performances and pb's. Lots of success and smiles. Well done to Jo and Kelly for getting out the team for every match...a lot of hard work much appreciated by all. Many thanks to the family and friends who travelled all over S. Wales supporting the team...the support you show your kids and the Club is fantastic. Many thanks to all those who helped out officiating each match...without you the matches could not go ahead. Many thanks to the coaches who prepared the athletes for competition...to see a smile from the athlete is all the reward we want.

As seen above it takes a lot to prepare and support a team to take part in the League and the Harriers do it a special way. The Pembrokeshire way !!
