The U11 / U13 / U15 League season came to an end on Sunday ( 21st Aug ) at the Welsh Cup Final in Brecon. The young Pembs Harriers had another great day and finished 3rd behind Carmarthen ( 2nd ) and Swansea ( Winners ). This is a fantastic result for the Club and to beat such strong Athletics Clubs like Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham just shows what progress has been made this year in strengthening the junior section and increasing the numbers competing.

Thanks must go to all those involved in helping achieve this....Team Manager, Coaches, Family and Friends and all those who support the Team and help create such a great atmosphere when we go on our travels.....THANK YOU !!

 Happy Supporters...

The nub....nothing like a nice, leisurely drive on a pleasant day en route to a good day's athletics. So it came to pass last weekend as Pete, Fiona, Anita and myself set off for Brecon for the Welsh Junior League Cup Final. We were the advance troops with tents, chairs and flag to set up base camp ready for the main group arriving care of our favourite coach company, Silcox,  which was very kindly sponsored by Tything Barn near Carew. So used to driving the route now and passed many old friends as we traversed the Beacons...Baaaarry sheep, Larry Lamb and also Mary who had another little lamb with her. The sheep with red coloured markings seemed full of the joys of Spring  August, the others in mint green.. not so happy...I wonder why ?  I digress.

Over the past few months we have been playing what seems like tent poker with some of the other teams. Firstly, we had one tent. Then others called with their one tent. So, we raised another tent to two. This was called by Neath with their two tents. So, finally, at Brecon this time, we re-raised to three tents and won the game. With the " pavillion " up and the large group of family and supporters gathered around it certainly was a little bit of Pembrokeshire at the upper end of the track. Thanks to all of you who travelled to mid Wales to support your Children and the team. It makes for a great atmosphere and I'm sure that helps our young Harriers before they set out to do battle on the track and in the field.

After everybody was "  booted and suited ", numbered and pinned, the day began. The Hammer throwers and Walkers got the proceedings off to a good start and all of the young Harriers gave it their all throughout the day. There were many pb's and great results but it must be emphasised that everyody who competed gained valuable points for the Club even if they didn't finish in the top tier of their event. It was very much a combined team effort by everybody,so thanks to you all......

Mention must be made of Josh Davies in the Long Jump who broke the Record for the second consecutive year...a fine leap of 6.30m. Also, thanks to our officials Huw M and Karen L supported by Rachel S over at the High Jump Bed and of course Sue and Brian A.

So, the team walked, ran, jumped and threw with tremendous determination and this resulted in Pembs Harriers finishing 3rd overall which is a fantastic result especially in beating some of the bigger teams like Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham. Just rewards for an excellent season.

Thanks to all of you who competed throughout the year. It's ok to train but it's competing for and supporting the Club which counts and lots of you have done that with such enthusiasm it bodes well for the future of the Pembrokeshire Harriers. Not forgetting you Mums / Dads / Grandparents and Friends...thanks for your support as well, we at the Club greatly appreciate it.

One last thought....Swansea 1st, Carmarthen 2nd and Pembrokeshire 3rd.  Third best Junior Team in Wales..not bad

West is Best !!!

I'm off to count some more sheep.....
