On Sat 31st Aug and Sun1st Sept. five young Harriers and their coaches and families travelled to Bedford for the English Age Group Championships. Athletes travelled from all over the country to compete at this prestigious event making it the unofficial UK Champs. Five athletes is the most that Pembrokeshire Harriers has ever had represented and this shows what talent we have in the Club at the moment. It would have been six but Ella Wintle is currently recovering from injury. It was a very hard, competitive couple of days but the Pembrokeshire youngsters performed excellently, all gaining pb's in their events.

Gracie Griffiths had her big U15G 3K Walk debut and what a fantastic race she had. She demolished her pb with a walk of 17m.22 to come 4th against much more experienced competition. This, along with the 1K Welsh Record she recorded the other week sets her in good stead for her Race Walking future.

Michael Jenkins took part in two discus events. In the U15B his 40.69m throw gained him a very creditable 5th place. However, in the F38/T38 competition big Mike excelled himself with a big pb throw of 36.36m to win the GOLD Medal.

Dafydd Pawlett didn't disappont in the U15B Shot. He went into the event as one of the favourites for a podium place and consequently threw a huge pb of 15.24m to win the SILVER Medal

Liam Topp  our U15B speedster, had an exhausting weekend running in six races. However, with a pb of 11.28s in the semi fnal he made the 100m Final. On his sixth run of the weekend, he ran a brilliant 36.46s pb to just miss out on  Bronze in the U15B 300m Final by 4/100s.

Young U15G of many talents Lucy Wintle, reached the 800m Final after a big pb of 2m 17.35s in the semi final. However, she was racing against girls a year older than her in the final, so,to even reach the final was a great achievement by her.

All the athletes were supported as usual, by a group of coaches and family who had made the long trek to Bedford. Well done them for their commitment and enthusiasm in cheering along all the Pembrokeshire athletes.
