Last Sunday ( 21st ) A large team from the Junior Squad travelled to Newport to compete in the Welsh Athletics Junior Cup Final. This is the biggest competition for the team during the seson as it involves the top 8 junior teams in Wales competing for the trophy. Pembrokeshire were up against ...     Cardiff AC ; Cardiff Archers ; Newport ; Rhymney Valley ; Swansea ; Carmarthen and Neath. Although there were a few unfortunate drop outs from the team, Managers, Jo and Louisa, had picked such a strong side that they were able to cover most events. The team performed so well that throughout most of the day they were lying in third place ahead of Swansea. However, towards the end, Swansea's numerical advantage in athletes counted and they overtook Pembs. But the team managed a very respectable 4th place behind such big clubs from Cardiff and Swansea.

A big well done to all our young athletes who gave their all, just as in every match this season. Also, for all the support from family and friends who made thre trip up the M4. Once again we had a big team of officials to help throughout the day and they also deserve a lot of praise for their attendance at the matches this year. Lastly, I'm sure everybody would agree that Team Managers Jo Salmon and Louisa Zygadlo have done a very fine job in getting the teams together for all competitions.

For the junior squad, this was the last event of the Summer track and field season. It has been one of great success. The team finished second behind Swansea in the Welsh Louise Arthur Junior League ( West ) and reclaimed the Gerald Codd Trophy on their home track in Haverfordwest. Also, to finish fourth in the above mentioned Cup Final is a brilliant way to end the Summer of 2016.

There have been many new faces competing  this year and, hopefully, they will continue with the Club and help with the continuing success throughout the coming years with Pembrokeshire Harriers !
