Last Saturday (1st July), the best of the Welsh Schools athletes headed to Cardiff for the annual Welsh Schools Championships. Twenty Pembrokeshire Harriers athletes were representing their schools as part of the Dyfed Schools Team. There were three Harriers who had the honour of captaining their respective age groups...Lucy Omnet - Senior Girls ; Matthew Williams - Senior Boys ; Amy Rothero - Middle Girls. This, a reward for all their hard work and dedication put in over the years.

It was a hot and sunny day with a swirling breeze which made things awkward at times for both track and field athletes. However, the Dyfed Team overcame all obstacles, and the team eventually ran out overall winners for yet another year. A fantastic achievement. Many of the athletes had outstanding performances. However, it was a big team effort with several athletes participating in events outside their normal experience. Those points gained were invaluable as the winning margin was only 11.5 points ahead of Swansea. Well done to all athletes from Cardiganshire / Carmarthenshire and of course, Pembrokeshire.

The Pembrokeshire athletes contributed, not only to the points total but also to the medal haul. Harriers managed....5 GOLD  ;  9 SILVER  ;  6 BRONZE  and many gained pb's. A great effort from those from our Club. Also. as a result of their successes on the day, several Pembs Harriers will gain their Welsh vests for forthcoming International Matches.

The Boss, Hedydd Davies, was very ably supported by Team Managers, Nathan Jones, Jo Salmon and Jane Wheeler. Between them they kept the show going right to the end. Mention must also be made of Gareth Elliot who was a field official and especially, Jonathan Phillips who seemed to be helping out all over the field !
