Dyfed secondary schools cross country team win the Welsh schools team title for the 19th year in succession.

 

Dyfed secondary schools have an outstanding record in the Welsh schools cross country championships winning the overall team title every year since 1993.This year once again at the Welsh schools championships in Brecon on Saturday 25 February 2012 Dyfed came top scoring in the eight age group races 116 points out of a possible 120 

1 Dyfed 116; 2 Cardiff and Vale 100; 3 Afan Nedd Tawe 81; 4 Powys 72

5 Eryri 70; 6 Glamorgan Valleys 67; 7 South East Wales 61;

8 North East Wales 60. 

At Brecon Dyfed won five of the eight age group races, came second in two and third in one.Dyfed schools won the year 7 girls, junior boys, junior girls, senior girls and senior boys events.The Welsh schools overall team trophy was presented by Mrs Mona Hughes President of Welsh schools athletics to the two Dyfed schools captains Megan Withers Tasker Milward and Liam Lloyd Coleg Sir Gar. 

91 pupils from Dyfed schools and colleges had been selected to compete for Dyfed at Brecon and 89 pupils from 26 schools and colleges competed on the day for their school and District in Brecon.Dyfed schools also had success in the individual races. Liam Lloyd Coleg Sir Gar won the senior boys race and Nikita Neary Dyffryn Taf the junior boys race. Jessica Bradley Tasker Milward came second in the junior girls race and Ceris Davies Dyffryn Teifi third in the Year 7 girls event. 

Dyfed Schools AA wish to thank Gill and Huw Jones Tasker Milward and Sharon Leech Amman Valley for their invaluable help on the day and Nathan Jones and members of Carmarthen and District Harriers Athletics Club which without their support would not have been possible to make the Welsh schools championships in Brecon a successful one for Dyfed.A sincere thanks to all the parents who brought their children to compete in Brecon and to all the Headteachers and PE staff of all the Dyfed schools and colleges for supporting cross country running in Dyfed.

A number of Dyfed athletes have been chosen to compete for Welsh schools in the international cross country matches in Glasgow on 18 March and Perth on 30 March

The success of cross country running in Dyfed at secondary level is due also as well to the introduction 20 years ago of cross country running in primary schools. 

This year the 21st annual Dyfed primary schools cross country championships will be held in the Showground at Nantyci on Thursday 22 March 2012.1500 competitors will be competing in the eight races. The first race is at 4.30pm and the Masonic Province of West Wales and Welsh Athletics sponsor the championships.
