Welsh Cross Country 2012 Report and Results
Great day for Cross Country, well the results for the Harriers were even if the runners suffered in what can only be described as one of the toughest courses and weather conditions in my memory.
Jess Bradley had to sprint to the start line as the gun started her race but controlled the shock of almost missing the start and had an excellent run to finish in 3rd place. The Under 13 Girls team dominated the field and packed well to win the team gold medal, Beth Meopham 8th, Alicia Jones 9th, Lucy Davies 12th, Tegan Harrison 21st and Jadie Davies 27th. As only 4 medals are provide for the girls team I have ordered 2 presentation medals for Tegan and Jadie and these will be presented to the girls when the arrive.
With only two athletes turning up, this left the U13 Boys with Marinus Petersen and Sulian Luckman as the sole runners, but both boys braved the elements and had solid runs, Marinus picking up the silver medal again and young Sulian finishing 29th.
Alice Russell-Stretch was the lone runner for the Harriers in U15 girls race and again showed her strength in terrible conditions to finish 20th.
Under 15 boys race like all the proceeding races on the course had to deal with deteriorating conditions and the three Pembrokeshire lads dealt really well with them. Liam Bradley finished 10th, Sam Withers 24th and Jack Rees 25th.
Our Under 17 Girls at least ran when it finally stopped raining and had one of the best team scores of the day when Megan Withers finished in Silver medal position, Caitlin Thompson Bronze, Rhian Homer 4th and Lauren Bell 9th.
Laurie Haworth our sole under 17 man had a very good run against a very strong field of athletes in his race and finished a very creditable 13th. Apologies to Laurie for incorrectly spelling his surname on the entry form.
Under 20 Men had fine runs for Alex Matchett 7th, Matthew Richards (still a Harrier at heart) 10th and Berwyn Warlow 12th. It was Berwyn's first Championship race for us and boy was it a baptism of mud, wind and rain.
So altogether Two Team Gold, Two Individual Silver and Two Individual Bronze an extremely good days cross country running.
