History made at SIAB Schools and Home Countries International

Jac Hopkins became the first Welsh winner of the SIAB Schools International for 36 years at Dinefwr Park in Llandeilo. Christian Lovatt (Ysgol Dyffryn Aman) was second Welshman home in 7th, with John Cove (Cardiff High) 10th, Ciaran Lewis (Llanishen) 13th, Aran Rees (Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr) 22nd, Liam Bradley (Tasker Milward VC) 27th, Nikita Neary (Dyffryn Taf) 30th, Nick Jones (Cardiff High) 32

Scotland’s Rhona Auckland took the Home Countries Junior Women’s title in 19.10 from England duo Jenny Walsh and Emily Hosker-Thornhill.Ffion Price was ninth for Wales just ahead of Georgia Garner (Colwyn Bay AC) in 10th, with Sarah Livett (Menai Track and Field AC) 19th , Rebecca Evans (Y Pant) 22nd,  Lydia Sharp (Coleg Menai) 24th, Elin Davies (Olchfa) 28th, Rhianwedd Price (Brecon AC) 30th, Malika Rezougui (Lewis Girls) 31st, Megan Withers (Tasker MIlward) 32nd, Heidi Redwood (Treorchy Comprehensive) 34th, Lauren Bell (Ysgol Bro) 36th, Rhiannon Middleton (Llanishen) 38th, Kari O’Neill (Ysgol Tre-Gib) 39th, Iona Evans (Olchfa) 40th, Rhian Homer (Ysol Bro Gwaun) 41st.

England also dominated the SIAB Junior Boys event with pre-race favourite Ben Dykstra (Leicestershire) winning comfortably in 13.56 from national teammates Tom Dodd (West Midlands) second and Hugo Milner (Derbyshire).Jake Heyward (Llanishen) was first home for Wales in 14.52 to finish 10th, followed by Matthew Williams (Milford) 13th, Christian Smith (Darland) 24th, Owen Thomas (Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymi (Blackwood) 26th, Dylan Lambropoulus (Gowerton) 27th, Benji Edwards (Brynteg) 29th, Elliot Lawrence (St Joseph’s) 30th and Joseph Crutchley (Llanidloes High) 32nd.

The SIAB Junior Girls was again dominated by England, with Lucy Jones (Leicestershire) and Katy-Ann McDonald (Surrey) leading from early on.Jones took the win in 10.48 with McDonald given the same time in second place.Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf’s Gwenno Hughes was first home for Wales in 10th place with Jessica Bradley (Tasker Milward VC School) 14th, Izzy Morris (Chris College) 15th, Emma Ligthart (Radyr) 21st, Alicia Jones (Tasker Milward VC School) 23rd, Abbie Williams (Pembroke) 27th and Lucy Davies (Dyffryn Taf) 30th.
