It was no way near cross country conditions at Bridgend for the first fixture of the Gwent League.

Not a wellington or umbrella to be seen anywhere, sun blocker and shades were the order of the day

 

First off was novice boy Finley Harrison, he finished a very creditable 41st.It was his first race and he  wasn’t sure about starting, but when asked at the end of his race he was very positive and will run the next fixture at Bath.

Lucy Davies made a great start to the season in the novice girls, showing great determination over the very fast course she held on to 4th place and will only improve as the season progress’s.

 

Under thirteen girls , Tegan Harrison had an excellent race in 14thplace, she aimed to get in the top fifteen and stuck to the task .Alice Russell Stretch still making her come back from illness can be very happy with 21st place and again will only get stronger during the season. Anna Garvey had a good start to her Gwent League in 26th place, Jessica Bradley also ran well for 37th place, while Jenna Clash,  will get stronger and fitter as the season progress’s, finished in 56th place.

 

Under fifteen boys saw a great race between Laurie Howarth and Liam Bradley, the boys changed positions throughout the race Laurie finished 20th and Liam 21st. Jack Rees  ran a very good race in 32nd and Samuel Withers who had a very impressive run and finished 46th.

In the girls section, honours went to Caitlin Thompson as she carried her excellent form into this seasons cross country finishing 5th. Rhian Homer also started as she finished her track season with a good run, finishing 22nd. Poppy Lewis will improve her placing as the season progress’s; today her 30th position was a good start.

 

In the under 17 boy section the lone club  runner Morgan Smith, who had the misfortune of being ill the previous night , still turned in a decent run, finishing in 48th.

The girls with Josie Lewis and Megan Good both produced excellent runs in their group over the longer distance to finish 20th and 29th

 

Junior men section saw Matthew Richards make a good start to the early season finishing 21st.

Sole senior male runner John Rees, finished 222nd his best position yet. Well done John!! 

 

All the runners will progress as the training effect takes place, after all we are only into the second week of training and the season has only just begun.
